If you feel that your skin is lacking moisture and looking a bit dull you'll probably want to use a refreshing face mask.
Supermarkets and beauty stores have an abundance of face masks on offer. But have you ever had a look at the ingredients? Do you really want to be putting PEG-100 Stearate on your face when you don't have a single clue what it even is?
Well, you don't have to. Using just three ingredients that you can find in your home, you can create your own face mask that not only will moisturise but will provide your skin with nutrients too!
Making your own face mask ensures there are no crazy chemicals involved, and no animals harmed in the process.

The two main ingredients in this recipe for brilliant skin is avocado and oats. The oats are just really used to bind the avocado into a thick paste. The third ingredient is up to you. You can use honey, but as I am vegan, I am using coconut oil. The purpose of the third ingredient is simply to help the mixture adhere to the skin but using coconut oil amplifies the moisturisation!
Avocado is a great ingredient to use when creating your own skin products because not only does it do a fantastic job at softening and moisturising the skin, it is proven to be an effective treatment for acne, blackheads and eczema. When used on the skin, avocado has also been reported to be effective in diminishing fine lines and wrinkles. But remember, it's not just what you do on the outside that matters, good nutrition is the most important factor for good skin!
Chop up half an avocado, and use a blender to mix the oats together with the avocado. You can then add a tablespoon of your third chosen ingredient. The mixture will look like the photo to your right.
More honey or coconut oil can be added to make a creamier paste if needed!
Then simply go ahead and rub the oaty avocado mixture on your face. Be warned, this might be quite messy and chunks of avocado might fall off onto your face.
You may feel like the face mask won't work unless all of the green stuff if glooped onto your face, but honestly, the most important thing here is that we have the oils from the avocado and coconut oil/honey sitting on your face and deeply moisturising the skin.
Once you have massaged the mixture well into your skin, you can relax for 10-20 minutes before washing it off. Moisturise with almond oil and say hello to baby smooth skin.
What's great about this is that any of the leftover mixtures can be used as a hair mask. Just rub the mixture into your hair, cover with a cap and let it sit for a minimum of 45 minutes. Shampoo and condition as normal.
Here's a picture of me looking silly with green lumps on my face!

You may think it's weird to rub a bunch of food on your face - but think about it this way - You eat an avocado and it treats you well on the inside. If you ate the chemicals that they put in the face masks you buy it would not treat you well on the inside at all.
So why not rub them onto your face?
So give it a try, go natural. I promise that your skin will love you for it!
